The Elephant Abstractions Quilt
The Elephant Abstractions Quilt is the third large scale project in my Abstractions series. This foundation paper pieced quilt is made with one striking large scale block.
The Elephant Abstractions Quilt by Violet Craft is a striking geometric design that has captivated quilters worldwide. It’s part of Violet’s "Abstractions" series, which emphasizes bold, modern, and intricate designs accomplished through foundation paper piecing. The original quilt depicts a single-block, large-scale elephant in shades of grey, set against a bright background.
The Elephant muse in this quilt is an Asian elephant that lives at The Wildlife Safari in Winston, OR where her in-laws worked for decades. Violet was able to see the conservation efforts there through their Cheetah and Sumatran Tiger programs and receives her inspiration from wildlife and conservation efforts.
Through a process of detailed technical work, Violet strives to make the most intricate patterns into the most accomplishable pattern for quilters. This quilt took over a month of full-time design work to produce the pattern and weeks to complete the first sample and finalize color selection. The Elephant Abstractions Quilt pattern’s versatility allows quilters to experiment with varied color palettes, adding a personalized touch to the majestic design
The quilt was first introduced in February of 2016 at Quiltcon in Pasadena, CA. The quilt was fresh off the mid-arm and bound on the flight to Pasadena :)

Errata
In some early patterns, there are two template #66 pieces. Both are marked 66A. It doesn't matter which side of piece 66 you do first so you can choose which piece to sew first.
Also, some very early patterns do not include a scale for printing the templates. Here are a few images of templates with a ruler. Please compare your printed templates to the ruler measurements in these images to verify that yours were printed correctly to scale.
