The Elevated Abstractions: Desert Mirage Quilt is the second pattern in the Elevated Abstractions landscape series. This foundation paper pieced quilt pattern is made of two striking large scale blocks combined measuring 44”w x 60”h. Borders extend to 90” x 90”. Wind turbines and palm trees are raw edge appliqué.

The Desert Mirage Quilt was inspired by Mount San Gorgonio and my time living in the high desert of California. On my daily commute through the mountain pass into the Coachella Valley, Old Greyback greeted me each morning and evening symbolized through the reflection of changing colors. The silhouettes of palm trees and wind turbines loomed in the valleys, on the slopes and in my memories.

Quilt was pieced by me, Violet Craft, and quilted by Gina Pina. Finished in September 2017 and first shown at Fall International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas in October 2017.
