Purchase of the Atomic Starburst Quilt pattern or Atomic Starburst Tree Skirt pattern is required. Pre-copied templates on a selection of papers will be provided in class to explore. Quiltcon: English Paper Piece Your Pet! (PH006)

We love our pets! In this design class, each student will make a custom EPP pattern and project from an original photo of their pet. English paper piecing is a technique where fabric is wrapped around paper templates and secured with basting stitches or glue. Violet will teach glue basting securing methods, and other techniques are discussed briefly and welcome to be used if students prefer them. The pieces are then sewn together by hand. This class will focus on EPP design practices and creating unique patterns as well as beginning to work step-by-step through English paper piecing the unique pet designs. Students will need to bring a pet photo to class.

This foundation paper piecing workshop is great for any sewist from beginner to advanced. There is always something new to learn! Choose any of the Violet Craft Abstractions patterns. Start with a small project like The Bunny or get started on a bucket list quilt: Forest, Lion, Giraffe, Elephant, Mt. Hood, Peacock, Desert Mirage, Wolf, Cow, Three Sisters, Unicorn, Horse, Cheetah, or Tiger. Violet will discuss general information about foundation paper piecing, best practices, and tools before students start their projects. As students work step-by-step through their projects at their own pace, Violet will support the class with tips, tricks, and techniques - including paper removal and finishing. More advanced instruction will be included as time allows. Sewing machines provided!

Then we will begin our project together and work step by step through english paper piecing. Throughout the class period I will stop the group and demonstrate as questions arise. Before the end of our time together we will cover paper removal, finishing and quilting. EPP is a slow process. Be prepared for a leisure class time of project preparation and slow sewing.

Traditional piecing of sashing with angles and constructing the quilt top will be covered, however the majority of class time will be focused on foundation paper piecing the starburst blocks.
